Netflix Reveals Season Two Premiere Date for Jon Bernthal’s ‘The Punisher’

When season one for The Punisher was released in November 2017, the response for the series was mostly mixed reviews while Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of Castle was met with approval. Soon after, season two was ordered and set to start production. Now, a premiere date has been announced for January 18, 2019.

Frank Castle’s the Punisher stops at nothing to exact revenge on those who murdered his wife and children. When he finds out that his best friend Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) is the reason for his loss, instead of killing him, he repeatedly smashes Russo’s face into the mirror causing his face to be deeply lacerated and shredded. The Punisher’s story seemingly comes to an end. However, the season two promo shows that that is likely not the case for our vigilante.

You can watch the promo below for season two.

Showrunner Steve Lightfoot discusses what to expect from Castle this season. “If you ask, ‘What is the theme of Season 2?’,” Lightfoot told Collider, “It’s about Frank really adopting the mantle of The Punisher.”

We will see the return of Billy Russo who has been permanently scarred by the Punisher. “He’s trying to piece together what happened to him and who he is. There is the metaphor at one point that his brain is the jigsaw that he’s trying put the pieces back together of,” actor Ben Barnes said to Collider.

A new villain will be introduced that draws comparisons to our current political climate. “On the exterior, [John Pilgrim] is a man who is a Christian Fundamentalist who had a rage, a violent side of him,” said Josh Stewart, who plays the character, Pilgrim. “It’s buried deep. I think where this is all headed, that sort of side of him is going to resurface a bit.”

After the cancellation of other Netflix’s Marvel TV shows, such as Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Iron Fist, we are not entirely sure of The Punisher‘s fate after season two is released.

Watch the return of The Punisher with season two on January 18 on Netflix.
