Netflix Returning to “Hemlock Grove”

Netflix seems to have established another successful original series, as Hemlock Grove has landed a second-season renewal order.

The drama series debuted in April to mixed reviews, though viewer response was generally positive. All thirteen episodes of its first season were released simultaneously for viewers to consume at their leisure, following the same format as Netflix’s other recent efforts.

Based on Brian McGreevy’s novel of the same name, Hemlock Grove tells the story of a fictional Pennsylvania town where a series of violent murders begin to take place. It soon becomes clear that many of the town’s residents are hiding secrets of their own, often of the supernatural variety.

McGreevy served as an executive producer on the show’s first season and will continue to do so for its second year, alongside Eli Roth, Lee Shipman, Eric Newman and Michael Connolly. They will also be joined by Charles H. Eglee, whose extensive television credits range from Dexter to the Walking Dead.

Roth sounds enthusiastic about the series’ future and its appeal to a younger audience. “The worldwide fan response to Hemlock Grove was phenomenal,” he told Deadline, and warned viewers to “get ready to be scared in ways you never expected” in season two.

The second season is set to begin production later this year, and will air in 2014.
