Netflix Picks Up MGM ‘Vikings’ Sequel Series Called ‘Vikings: Valhalla’

press release from Netflix that was released last week stated that Netflix has decided to pick up MGM Vikings Sequel Series Called ‘Vikings: Valhalla’. The series will act as a continuation or “New Chapter” in the Vikings saga. The original Vikings series, which is currently airing on History will be concluding its series run after six seasons on January 30th, 2020.

The show is set to take place 100 years after the conclusion of the original series and will focus on the stories of Leif Erikson, Freydis, Harald Harada and the Norman King William the Conqueror (also a Viking descendant) who are known to be some of the greatest and most renowned vikings that have lived. As we get to know who they are and the stories about their “survival in an ever changing and evolving Europe”. (TV Line)

Executive producers of the original show Michael Hirst (The Tudors) and Morgan O’Sullivan (Penny Dreadful) will also be Executive producers for Valhalla. By also bringing in Jeb Stuart (The Fugitive, Die Hard, The Liberator) as writer and executive producer. According to Deadline, the new Vikings series will continue to film in Ireland where the original show has been filming. Netflix requested the right to show the 24 episode season but there is no set air date yet for the new series. Deadline also states that Netflix will soon gain the rights to acquire the show for audiences to view it in its entirety on the streaming service.
