Netflix Confirms Renewal for ‘Black Summer’ Series

Netflix confirmed the renewal for its zombie series ‘Black Summer’ in a press release that was sent out last week. In the press release it detailed how actors Jaime King (Heart of Dixie), Justin Chu Cary (Blindspotting), and Christine Lee (My Christmas Dream) will return for season 2 in addition to Karl Schaefer (Creator of Z Nation) and John Hyams (Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning), and Abram Cox (Z Nation) as writers and Executive Producers. John Hyams will also take on an additional role as showrunner during this season and Jaime King doubling as producer.

The release date for season 2 has yet to be announced to the public in addition to the fact that there is no information pertaining as to why Black Summer has been renewed for another season. What we certainly know about is that this upcoming season of the show will consist of 8 full episodes. The production for the upcoming season is set to start filming in Alberta, Canada sometime in 2020.

It has been understood that Z Nation and Black Summer take place within the same universe and is even considered to be an unofficial prequel to many fans. The Black Summer series storyline for season 1 takes place in the events leading up to and the beginning of the outbreak of the undead. With this in mind, the main character Rose (Jaime King) is determined to find her daughter who was taken from her and sent to a place called The Stadium which is said to be a military evacuation zone. With the help of her fellow acquaintances Spears (Justin Chu Cary), and Kyung (Christine Lee) as they face zombies and humans alike to try to survive in a post-apocalyptic world at the same time as they try to find those that have been taken and reach The Stadium.
