Netflix Orders Second Season of Jason Momoa-starring ‘Frontier’ Ahead of Series Premiere

Netflix is doubling down on Frontier.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming service has already placed a second season order for the series even though the show has yet to premiere. The fur-trading focused drama, starring Jason Momoa, is set to premiere its six-episode first season on Discovery Canada on November 6th of this year before heading to Netflix in 2017. Frontier was created by Peter and Rob Blackie.

Frontier will use the fur-trade of late 18th century North America as a backdrop to tell stories about the violence and bloodshed that commonly occurred, whether it was between Native tribes and Europeans or a couple of businessmen trying to screw each other over on a deal. Momoa will star as the cruel, charismatic, and vengeful trader Declan Harp. The series also stars Landon Liboiron, Alun Armstrong, Allan Hawco, Jessica Matten, Shawn Doyle, and Zoe Boyle.

“As we started to see this cinematic, well-cast and meticulously produced series come to life as we’d dared imagine for season one, we knew we’d created a uniquely immersive world and story that begged for expansion to a second season,” said Discovery Canada GM Ken MacDonald. “Our decision to begin filming another six episodes before the series’ world premiere is a testament to our confidence in Frontier‘s world-class storytelling.”

Frontier is produced by Netflix, Discovery, Take the Shot Productions, and Peyton and Fierson ASAP Entertainment. Jeff Fierson, Brad Peyton, Alex Patrick, and John Vatcher executive produce the series.
