The second half of Lucifer season five comes to Netflix on May 28. For fans of the fantasy-themed police procedural that want hints about what to expect, the streamer published the official trailer on YouTube on April 30, according to Entertainment Weekly. Season 5B will consist of eight hour-long episodes, as reported by LRM Online. Those who attended the show’s remotely conducted DC FanDome panel discussion from September 2020 already received brief preview of one of the episodes, which is allegedly a full-blown jukebox musical, Entertainment Weekly reports. DB Woodside (Single Ladies), who plays the angel Amenadiel in the program, confirmed that the second half of Lucifer season five kicks off mere seconds after the conclusion of the first part, which arrived on Netflix in August 2020, via TV Line. Season 5A concluded with immortal siblings Amenadiel, Lucifer (Tom Ellis, Miranda), Michael (also Ellis), and Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt, Single Ladies) in the midst of fight, which was interrupted by their father God, played by Golden Globe nominee Dennis Haysbert (24), according to The A.V. Club. Season 5B will allegedly pit Lucifer and Michael against one another as they vie for the title and duties held by their almighty patriarch: “God… tries to mend his relationship with his devil son while also announcing his impending retirement… [This] will trigger celestial war between [the] twins… as they fight each other for God’s throne,” via Coming Soon.
Season 5B reportedly introduces a handful of new faces to the show’s wild world. Brianna Hildebrand (Trinkets) will play an angelic troublemaker named Rory who makes the mistake of idolizing Lucifer, while Merrin Dungey (Big Little Lies) joins the cast as Sonya, stringent cop who develops a connection to Amenadiel, as reported by Radio Times. Additionally, Scott Porter (Ginny & Georgia) will portray LAPD’s newest recruit Carol Corbett, who has eyes for forensics specialist Ella Lopez (Aimee Garcia, Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.), according to TV Line. Rob Benedict (Supernatural), meanwhile, will take on the recurring role of French mercenary Vincent Le Mec, as reported by TV Guide.
Showrunners Joe Henderson (White Collar) and Ildy Modrovich (Eleventh Hour) revealed that fan-favorite character Eve (Inbar Lavi, Imposters), who has been romantically involved with Lucifer and Mazikeen, will return in season 5B, although they have been hesitant to reveal how she fits into the season’s overall story, via TV Line. Brandt, however, shared behind-the-scenes snapshot of Eve sitting upright in a hospital bed as Mazikeen leans in for a kiss on her Twitter.
Lucifer has already been renewed for a sixth and final season. Season 5B comes to Netflix on Friday, May 28.
