Netflix Comedy Series ‘Living with Yourself’ Names Paul Rudd as Lead

Paul Rudd has officially been named the lead in the new Netflix original series Living With Yourself. The eight-episode comedy will focus on George (Rudd), a man who has decided to better his life by taking part in a procedure in which he is set to come out the other side a greater man. However, things do not go as expected, with George ultimately being left to live in a reality in which a better version of himself has taken his place and left his original, possibly-lesser self adrift. The show’s creators have stated that the series, dubbed a “philosophical comedy”, will explore the question of “do we really want to be better?”

This role will require Rudd to play both versions of George, allowing him to expand his acting chops even further beyond his already lengthy career.Rudd is no stranger to comedy, having landed roles in Wet Hot American Summer as Andy, a goofy fusion of both boy and man, in addition to The 40 Year Old Virgin, and I Love You, Man. Rudd also portrayed the recurring character of Bobby Newport, a highly confused yet very passionate man who runs for an office with a title that he is never quite sure of, in the series Parks and Recreation.

Rudd is fresh off a hot streak with the release of the second movie in the Ant Man series, which debuted three years after the first installment of the shrunken hero’s adventures.Rudd also has a previous relationship with Netflix, having starred in the streaming service’s original movie The Fundamentals of Caring, which was released in 2017.

Living With Yourself was originally slated to be produced at IFC, but after struggling with the initial development, was placed on the back burner until picked up by Netflix last February. Timothy Greenberg, a former writer for The Daily Show, is the creator of the series, and will serve as an executive producer for the show. Alongside Greenberg will be Jeffrey Blitz, the acclaimed director of several movies and episodes of The Office, one of which he won an Emmy for his work on.The release date for the series has not yet been announced.
