Netflix Announces Premiere Date For ‘Locke & Key’

Netflix has finally announced the premiere date for its long awaited Locke & Key series, Deadline has learned. The show, adapted from the best selling IDW comic of the same name written by Joe Hill and illustrated by Gabriel Rodriguez, will make its debut on the streaming empire on February 7th, 2020. Locke & Key focuses on the three Locke siblings, who all move into their ancestral home with their mother after the mysterious death of their father. They soon discover that the home they move into, Keyhouse, has several magical keys, and as the Locke siblings begin to explore and access the magical powers each key possesses, a demon awakens in an attempt to steal those keys for himself.

Locke & Key has been under development for a while, and was once branded as a Hulu original. The pilot had already been made for Hulu back in 2018, with IT director Andy Muschietti lending his directorial touch to the debut episode and the comic series’ own creator, Joe Hill, writing the pilot. The pilot episode had been ordered by Hulu on April of 2018, but afterward there were top executive changes that may have played a role in Hulu deciding to abandon the pilot. Before that, the show had tried to find a home on Fox as far back as 2010. According to Deadline, it had even reached the pilot stage before the decision was made for it not to go to series, with the pilot episode only being shown at comiccon in 2011.

Because of his commitment to IT Chapter 2, Muschietti didn’t have enough time to direct the pilot episode of Netflix’s version of Locke & Key, but he will still be serving as an executive producer alongside Joe Hill, Carlton Cuse, Ted Adams and his sister Barbara Muschietti. The show will star Jackson Robert Scott as Bode Locke, Connor Jessup as Tyler Locke and Emilia Jones as Kinsey Locke. Darby Stanchfield will be playing Nina Locke, the mother of the Locke siblings.
