Netflix and BBC’s ‘The Last Kingdom’ Season 3 Confirmed and in Production

The Netflix and BBC project The Last Kingdom has seen more rumors than confirmation since the release of the second season in May 2017. Now it is official that the new season will be coming out and its release date will be later this year in 2018. The new season will also be a little longer with it being ten episodes rather than eight.  Alexander Dreymon, who plays the main character Uhtred, made the announcement via Twitter himself confirming the rumors.

Here is the tweet:

The third season will also be exclusively seen on Netflix. The series itself is based on Bernard Cornwell’s books The Last Kingdom saga. Along with Dreymon, the rest of the cast will be: Ian Hart (Father Beocca), David Dawson (King Alfred), Emily Cox (Brida) and, Tobias Santelmann (Ragnar the Younger). There will also be new character joining the series. Here is his description: “A physical impairment that causes mobility impairment in lower limbs i.e a wheel-chair user or amputee as he is written as ‘a young Saxon monk who cannot use his legs’. Age range between 22 – 35 years. Appears in episode 1 & 2.”

The third season will continue the storyline of Uhtred’s mission to retake his ancestral homeland of Bebbanburg and fight off the Danish army once and for all. Stephen Butchard will also be returning as leading screenwriter for the series. While there is no solid date on when the new season will come out, it will come out before the end of the year.  Cornwell responded to a fan on his website that it will, “probably [be] this autumn.”
