NBC Sets Series Finale Date for Family Drama ‘This Is Us’

Entertainment Weekly reported Friday that NBC’s family drama series, This Is Us, will air its final episode Tuesday, May 24 at 9 p.m. ET. The Emmy-winning primetime drama is currently on hiatus while NBC’s programming focuses on the Winter Olympics. New episodes will return on February 22.

Created by Dan Fogelman (Pitch, The Neighbors), This Is Us tells the story of the Pearson family through the eyes of its three adult siblings – Kevin, Kate, and Randall. Instead of a straight linear story, the series explores the Persons’ past, present, and future, capturing the many human moments that connect them all.

Kevin, Kate, and Randall are played by Justin Hartley (Smallville, Revenge), Chrissy Metz (Breakthrough, American Horror Story), and Sterling K. Brown (Army Wives, Black Panther) respectively. Known as “The Big Three,” the series has tracked the siblings from infancy to adolescence, to adulthood, and having families of their own. In addition to their experiences, viewers witness the lives of those in their familial circle and beyond.

“It’s gonna deliver. It’s truly, truly going to deliver,” cast member Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes, Pathology) explained at NBC’s Scripted Press Day panel via People. Ventimiglia, who plays the Pearson’s beloved patriarch, Jack, was joined by other cast members and executive producer Fogelman for the press junket. Fogleman previewed what viewers could expect to come for the remainder of the season.

“Towards the end of the season, it’s fair to say we’ll live there more,” Fogelman said according to People. For those watching weekly, Fogelman alludes to the future-present that includes Kate getting re-married, the family reuniting at the house that Kevin has built, and the adult life of Kate’s son, Jack Jr.

The series’ main cast includes Mandy Moore (A Walk to Remember, Saved!) as the siblings’ mother, Rebecca; Susan Kelechi Watson (NCIS, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood) as Randall’s wife, Beth; Chris Sullivan (The Knick, Stranger Things) as Kate’s husband, Toby; and, Jon Huertas (Castle, Generation Kill) as Rebecca’s friend and second beau, Miguel. The series has also gathered an outstanding list of guests stars including Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show, Black Box), Ron Cephas Jones (Mr. Robot, The Get Down), Gerald McRaney (Focus, Simon & Simon), Camryn Manheim (The Practice, Law & Order), and Carl Lumbly (Alias, Nightjohn).

According to People, the sixth season is comprised of 18 episodes, with the returning sixth episode entitled “Our Little Island Girl: Part 2.” The episode was co-written by Watson.

All five seasons of This Is Us are available to stream on Hulu. And watch the current season Tuesday evenings at 9 p.m. on NBC.
