NBC Renews Freshmen Series ‘Found’ & ‘The Irrational’

NBC has renewed two freshmen series that debuted this fall season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jesse L. Martin’s (The Flash, Law & Order) The Irrational and Shanola Hampton’s (Shameless, Things Never Said) Found scored second seasons. Both series were developed off-cycle, allowing NBC to air episodes that were completed before the dual labor strikes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, both series have performed steadily on the network as two of the few original programs in NBC’s fall schedule. Monday’s The Irrational has tallied 6.34 million viewers per episode after seven days of linear viewing. Found, which airs on Tuesday evenings, has averaged 5.18 million viewers. Neither of those calculations includes streaming data.

In The Irrational, Martin plays behavioral scientist Alec Mercer, whose unique perspective and examination of human behavior assists in solving high-profile crimes with the FBI. As each week delivers a new case, the overarching narrative follows the lead’s attempt to solve a hate crime that left him scarred from severe burns. Based on Dan Ariely’s (The Upside of Irrationality, The Honest Truth About Dishonesty) nonfiction work, Predictably Irrational, the series also stars Arash DeMaxi (Quest, The Equalizer), Maahra Hill (Nightmare Tenant, The L Word: Generation Q), Molly Kunz (Widows, The Wolf and the Lion), and Travina Springer (Ms. Marvel, The Mule).

The Irrational has Arika Lisanne Mittman (Timeless, Dexter) as showrunner, via The Hollywood Reporter. Mittman also executive produces with Sam Baum (Temps, Dog Days), David Frankel (Inventing Anna, The Morning Show), and Mark Goffman (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, The Beast) with Universal TV.

Found follows Hamptons’s Gabi Mosely as she leads a PR firm that specializes in finding missing people forgotten or ignored by mainstream society. As a teen, Gabi freed herself and a young girl from an elusive predator known as Sir. In her pursuit of justice, she uses a particularly dark method to get inside the mind of a victim’s captor. The series also stars Arlen Escarpeta (David Makes Man, Whitney), Brett Dalton (Lost in Florence, Just My Type), Mark-Paul Gosselaar (The Passage, Saved By the Bell), Karan Oberoi (Displacement, Roswell, New Mexico), Gabrielle Walsh (The Hive, Close Enough), and Kelli Williams (Ties That Bind, The Practice).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nkechi Okoro Carroll (All American) created Found and serves as the showrunner. Executive producers include Greg Berlanti (Love, Simon, Everwood), Lindsay Dunn (From, Citadel), Sonay Hoffman (American Crime, Daredevil), Leigh London Redman (Gotham Knights, Dead Boy Detectives), Sarah Schechter (Free Guy, Black Lightning), and Hampton. The show is produced by Berlanti Productions and Rock My Soul Productions along with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television.

“These shows are a testament to the incredibly passionate work of our showrunners Nkechi Okoro Carroll (Found) and Arika Lisanne Mittman (The Irrational), both of whom have executed their visions flawlessly,” Lisa Katz, President Scripted Content at NBCUniversal Entertainment said via The Hollywood Reporter. “A huge thank you to the talented casts, producers and crews for their tireless commitment and dedication, which has clearly paid off with audiences making these series must-see television on both NBC and next day on Peacock.”
