NBC Orders ‘A.P. Bio’ to Series

As NBC looks to rebuild their comedy brand, the network has ordered new comedy pilot to series. Variety reports that A.P. Bio, which hails from Seth Meyers and Lorne Michaels, both of Saturday Night Live fame, has been picked up to series. This marks NBC’s third new show that has been picked up and their first new comedy after two dramas, Rise and For God and Country, were picked up on Thursday.

The show centers on Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as a philosopher who doesn’t get the job of his dreams and has to find something else to do: teach advance placement biology, hence the title of the show. Once he learns that he is dealing with smart teenagers, he begins to use all of them to his advantage.

Patton Oswalt, Lyric Lewis, Mary Sohn, Aparna Brielle, Jacob McCarthy and Nick Peine also star in the show. Meyers’ old SNL co-star Vanessa Bayer will also have a part in the pilot episode. The pilot was written by Mike O’Brien. He will serve as executive producer, as will Meyers, Michaels, Andrew Singer and Michael Shoemaker. Oz Rodriguez is responsible for directing the pilot episode.

Just like Rise and For God and Country, the show comes from Universal Television, NBC’s TV production arm, and Michaels’ Broadway Video, which is responsible for SNL, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night With Seth Meyers.

Currently, there’s no trailer, premiere date or timeslot for the show. The trailer will likely be premiered at next week’s broadcast networks upfronts presentation, which NBC kicks off on May 15 in the morning session. About a month after that, NBC will release premiere dates for all of their fall shows, where A.P. Bio might be. If it’s not on the schedule then, it will premiere at some point in the midseason.
