NBC Loses Showrunner for its DC Comics Comedy ‘Powerless’

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ben Queen the showrunner for DC’s Powerless has officially left the freshman superhero comedy series. And because of this, production has been temporarily paused until the producers at Warner Bros. Television and NBC can find a new showrunner for the show.

Queen (NBC’s A to Z) created the DC Comics’ Powerless. Production on the midseason series was originally set to begin at the end of the month. The superhero comedy was set to bow midseason and does not have a premiere date set at the moment. Because of this, the change at the top is not expected to really affect when it ultimately does land a spot on the schedule.

As far as why Queen chose to leave, sources are saying that he had creative differences with WBTV and NBC and thus a mutual decision was made for Queen to exit the series.

Powerless will be based on characters from DC Comics and is set in the same universe full of superheroes, villains, and everyday heroes. The comedy series is an office comedy about the over-the-top average employees at an insurance company and their mission to find their own power.

Alan Tudyk, Danny Pudi, Vanessa Hudgens, Vivien Elizabeth Armour, Mark Brandon, and Antonio Cayonne star in the single-camera comedy.

Queen who currently has an overall deal with WBTV recently appeared at the San Diego’s Comic Con to support the show, where he described the series as “its own little subset” of the DC Comics world.

Powerless is the second freshman series to lose its showrunner. Back in April, showrunner Eli Jorne exited Son of Zorn, Fox’s live-action/animated hybrid comedy. With sources also attributing his exit due to creative differences.
