NBC is giving Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU, ER) special night of programming ahead of her upcoming role as host of the 78th Emmy Awards. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network will air three-episode Law & Order: SVU marathon on Sept. 10, with each episode selected because Hargitay received an Emmy nomination for her performance as Olivia Benson.
One of the episodes also earned her the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. The marathon begins at 8 p.m. with “Charisma,” which originally aired in 2004.
Following that, The Hollywood Reporter notes that at 9 p.m., NBC will air “911,” the episode that earned Hargitay her Emmy win. The night concludes at 10 p.m. with “Undercover,” which originally aired in 2008.
“911” follows the SVU team after a young girl calls for help and says she is being held hostage. Detectives must keep her on the phone long enough to determine her location. “Undercover” places Benson inside a correctional facility after a teenage girl accuses a corrections officer of assault and threatening her imprisoned mother.
Hargitay has earned eight Emmy nominations for playing Benson. She also serves as an executive producer on SVU and has directed episodes of the long-running drama.
The marathon comes as SVU prepares to begin its 28th season on Oct. 8. The series is also expected to pass 600 episodes later this year.
As mxdwn previously reported, Hargitay recently reunited with Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: SVU, Happy!) after NBC canceled Law & Order: Organized Crime. That coverage focused on the continued friendship between the two actors and the lasting popularity of Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler’s partnership.
Hargitay also left the door open for another future reunion between the characters, even after Meloni’s spinoff came to an end. Hargitay will host the 78th Emmy Awards on Sept. 14 from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
“Bringing important stories into the light has been the heartbeat of my career,” Hargitay said when her hosting role was announced. She added that she looks forward to celebrating the television community during NBC’s 100th birthday year.
