NBC Gives Pilot Order for Seth Meyers and Mike O’Brien Comedy

Saturday Night Live alums are giving some more comedy to the world.

Variety claims that Mike O’Brien, who was a SNL writer and cast member, penned the pilot that has not been officially named. The projected series is a single-camera comedy, focusing on a situation that may not be the most wonderful but has the promise of comedy: a down-in-the-dumps Ivy League professor loses out on his dream job, and somehow ends up as a high school biology teacher. Variety doesn’t go into specifics about the main character’s backstory, but it promises that his “unorthodox teaching style” will lead to the professor using his new pupils in a revenge plan against those who opposed him. Universal Television and Michaels’ Broadway Video are producing, while NBC issued the pilot order.

The executive producers for the pilot are a long list of Saturday Night Live alums as well, including O’Brien, Seth Meyers, Mike Shoemaker, Lorne Michaels, and Andrew Singer. Naturally, Meyers is still performing in his regular late night talk show, Late Night With Seth Meyers, on the same network.

This latest order comes after NBC’s order for the new drama Reverie, which is a drama from Mickey Fisher, who created Extant. As previously covered, this will be the second comedy pilot ordered, after a show helmed by members from Fresh Off The Boat.
