NBC Decides to Pass on David Koechner Variety Show

While looking for a new variety show, NBC has decided to pass on a comedy in which Anchorman’s David Koechner would have starred and executive produced, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

David Koechner started his career on NBC’s Saturday Night Live and has been looking to get back to sketch comedy. After a pilot was ordered, Koechner created a variety show that would have starred Koechner himself. He would also serve as an executive producer for the show, along with Lou Wallach, Alex Murray and Tim Sarkes. The untitled show has been passed over by the network

NBC will now be considering another variety show starring Bridesmaids’ Maya Rudolph. The Maya Rudolph Show is set for a May 19 test run with the network. The show is said to feature Rudolph as a starring role with a classic variety show format along with a full lineup of A-list guest stars and musical guests.

NBC has been looking to air alternative forms of comedy to help the network and their struggle with scripted comedies. SNL and the unscripted game show Hollywood Game Night are currently the top comedies for the network.
