Nashville’s Hayden Panettiere Asserts That Her Personal Life Was Mirrored In Her Character

Child star Hayden Panettiere (I Love You, Beth Cooper, Custody) says her role on Nashville imitates her real life. Following her six-year run as the lead on Nashville, the 34-year old actress discloses that, like her character on the show, she struggled with postpartum depression, alcoholism, and addiction in real life. In the role of Juliette Barnes, Panettiere portrayed a successful country music performer from Music City who battled drug addiction.

Hayden has been acting for a long time and is known for her roles in The Scream Franchise, Bring It On: All Or Nothing, Remember The Titans, and her lead role as Claire Bennet on Heroes the NBC superhero series.

According to Deadline, Panettiere talks about her experience on the show in an interview with The Messenger. She explains that her experience was “very traumatizing, because I felt like I was acting out my own life.”

She goes in to further elaborate on how she felt during her time on the show: “Straight from the beginning, it was like, I’m dating a football player, [and then] Juliette dates a football player. And then they turned her into an alcoholic. Then they turned to her leaving her daughter and going to this crazy [place] in Europe, and it was very obvious…”

As Deadline notes, Panettiere added, “They weren’t doing their homework. They weren’t creating new storylines. They were just looking at my life and going, ‘Oh, let’s just take what she’s going through and put our little spin on it.’ And then, ta-da! It’s done and done.

When twelve to twenty hour working days are added, the actress claimed that the stress had made an impact on her health.

The actress mentions what she went through: “I didn’t have time to take care of myself [and] to think about and go through the pain I was experiencing physically [and] emotionally. I just wanted to drum it out and watch mindless television and great shows.”

She adds, “Anything to keep my mind off of that because I knew that next day I was going to be back at it again. I was like, tear central. I don’t even think on a soap opera that I cried as much [as I did] on ‘Nashville.”

The actress/singer will be going on tour in late February.
