Murder Mystery Show Coming to Quibi from ‘SNL’ Legends

Fans of Saturday Night Live may want to keep an eye on Quibi, an upcoming mobile-focused streaming platform. Quibi has ordered murder mystery series with SNL veterans teaming up for a new show titled Mapleworth Murders. The show will be executive produced by Lorne Michaels, who has produced SNL since 1975, as well as Seth Meyers, Mike Shoemaker (Late Night With Seth Meyers), and Andrew Singer (Portlandia). Co-executive producers are Hilary Marx (The Other Two) and Jason Carden who has produced numerous short form projects.

Mapleworth Murders follows mystery writer Abigail Mapleworth as she solves homicides in her small town, New Woodstream. There will be a series of guest stars as victims and suspects. As Abigail solves each new mystery a new one starts to form: why is there so much violent crime in her quaint town? The show is seen as a comedic take on Murder, She Wrote.

Mapleworth Murders will star Paula Pell (Saturday Night Live), as Abigail Woodstream, and John Lutz (30 Rock). Lutz’s role in the show has not been specified yet. The two will not only work in front of the camera, but behind it as well. Pell and Lutz will also serve as writers for the series.

It is unclear when Mapleworth Murders will be released, but Quibi is expected to launch in April 2020. The base price for Quibi is $4.99, which requires users to watch short advertisements. If you would like to watch without ad breaks, then the price is $7.99. Quibi co-founder, Meg Whitman, says there will be approximately seven thousand videos on Quibi in its first year.

Content coming to Quibi includes a horror show from Steven Spielberg that can only be watched at night, Don’t Look Deeper (a sci-fi from Catherine Hardwicke), Judge Judy-esque show starring Chrissy Teigen, and much more.

Quibi is expected to launch April 6th, 2020.
