Dr. Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) had gone through whirlwind of a ride in Gotham’s fourth season. She had to face the man she once loved, Edward Nygma aka the Riddler (Cory Michael Smith), by stabbing him at the end of the episode. However, shortly after, Edward does the same to her, leaving the fate of both characters remaining in the dark. Gotham is never short on unpredictability.
One little nugget was given towards the end of the season when Hugo Strange (BD Wong), the mad scientist, took both in. This led to speculations that Lee would come out alive but not as her normal self. “She’s been altered,” Baccarin added. “It’s a very temporary thing. It’s like a switch, basically. An on/off switch.” Nothing good could come out of this.
Baccarin keeps mum on what exactly will happen to her character throughout the final season. “Yeah, I mean where we find Lee, she has no recollection of what happened to her after she got stabbed,” Baccarin said. “So she is nowhere. She is just sort of in a daze. And everybody is, where we find Gotham and everybody is a state of complete post-apocalyptic chaos, in a way. And so she’s eventually joins up to help figure out how to get out. How can we get Gotham out of this no man’s land? The thing that she knows how to do best is help people, and be a doctor, so she can do that.”
Season five of Gotham is revolved around the “No Man’s Land” storyline where nothing but chaos and destruction exist. The season will showcase Bane (Shane West), and debut new looks for Scarecrow (David W. Thompson), Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) and the Riddler. The final season will carry along with 12 episodes.
Gotham returns on January 3 on FOX at 8 PM ET.
