Mireille Enos Previews Changes to Season Two of ‘The Catch’

Now that How To Get Away With Murder has wrapped up another twisty season, it’s time for another Shondaland drama to take over its timeslot for the rest of the season. With the second season premiere of The Catch airing tonight, star Mireille Enos spoke with Entertainment Weekly about how the show has reset itself from last season.

Enos said the second season of the show gives both the cast and the crew a chance to complete start over, as they were “flying by the seat of our pants” with changes that were made at the last minute of the first season. However, she said that for the second season, people were able to take a step back to find out what worked and what didn’t work.

When the show got renewed, Enos said she was in a meeting with Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Allan Heinberg (three of the executive producers) and Peter Krause (the male lead) to talk about what they think worked and didn’t work and how they could apply what worked to the new season.

“We went into season 2 with this renewed energy and feeling like the love story really worked and the high jinks really worked,” Enos said.

As for her character and Krause’s character, Enos said they’re still definitely in love and there’s trust in the relationship (after all, he went to prison for her), but there’s more questions than anything when it comes to the relationship.

Meanwhile, Enos also previewed two well-known actors coming to the show this season: T.R. Knight and Gina Torres.

Knight will be playing Tommy, Alice’s brother who has a knack of getting himself into serious trouble. One of the cases that Alice’s firm works on during the course of the season involves Tommy and some of the trouble that he got himself into over the years.

Enos said that viewers will see a different side of Alice when dealing with Tommy because “her brother is a mess, she’s always having to pick up the pieces for him.”

As for Torres’ character, Enos said she plays a FBI agent who works alongside Rhys (John Simm) and Ben. Enos also previewed that Rhys develops romantic feelings for Torres’ character, but those feelings aren’t exactly reciprocated.

The first season of the show averaged a 0.97 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic, which is considerably lower than the season averages from last season for fellow TGIT dramas of Grey’s AnatomyScandal and How To Get Away With Murder and many people were surprised when the show got renewed.

The Catch premieres tonight at 10 p.m. on ABC.
