The Military Channel will change its name and be rebranded as the American Heroes Channel (AHC).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the change will take place on March 3, 2014. In the next few weeks the channel plans on marketing with a target of males skewing from 25-34. They will incorporate history-based, narrative-style documentary programming on the country’s heroes.
Investigation Discovery, Destination America and AHC Group president Henry Schleiff said in a statement that the AHC will “sit at the intersection of military and history programming.”
They plan to focus on courage and heroism. There are 17 new series and specials in the first year alone, including originals Raw War: The Lost Film of Dark To; CIA: Desclassified; Codes & Conspiracies; and Against the Odds.
Against the Odds features veterans who “felt a responsibility to share their stories of service with the viewing public.” Schleiff and channel GM Kevin Bennett said the network will also focus on those who distinguished themselves through other actions, such as a scientist working during the space race or a SEAL Team Six member.
