Michael Showalter Signs on to Direct ‘In the Dark’ Pilot

Deadline has reported that Michael Showalter has signed on to direct the pilot episode of In the Dark for CBS. The actor and filmmaker will also serve as executive producer on the upcoming series.

Showalter is best known for acting in, writing, and directing comedies. He’s best known for writing and starring in series such as Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, Children’s Hospital, and Search Party.

In the Dark is written by Corinne Kingsbury (The Newsroom, Back in the Game) and follows a young blind woman who becomes wrapped up in the murder case of her drug-dealer friend. When the cops refuse to believe her account of events, she takes matters into her own hands and tries to solve the case herself.

Showalter just directed one of the biggest films of 2017, Kumail Nanjiani’s The Big Sick, which has also been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay at this year’s Oscars. After his stint in Hollywood, it should be fun to see Showalter return to work on the small screen.
