Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos) and Alec Berg (Barry, Curb Your Enthusiasm) are in the early stages of developing, what could be, a new HBO series, according to Variety. The series is to be “meta blend of fact and fiction loosely based on Imperioli’s experiences as a practicing Buddhist,” in which Imperioli will star, according to Variety.
In addition to co-writing the series, Imperioli and Berg will also executive produce along with Amy Solomon, who runs Berg’s production company, according to Variety.
Imperioli is most famous for his role as Christopher Moltisanti—for which he won an Emmy—on the HBO mafia drama The Sopranos, in which he played Tony Soprano’s “protégé,” as IndieWire put it. However, Imperioli also wrote five episodes of The Sopranos, and he has writing credits on Goodfellas, in which he also starred as Spider. Most recently, Imperioli has had roles in series like Project Blue Book and films like Primal and One Night in Miami.
Berg has writing and production credits on recent HBO projects Barry, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Silicon Valley, in addition to directing episodes of each of those series, according to IndieWire. For his work with HBO, Berg has received 21 Emmy nominations. Berg also has writing credits for three episodes of Seinfeld.
