Michael C. Hall Is “Excited” Showtime’s ‘Dexter’ Reboot Answers “What The Hell Happened…?”

In a recent interview with Daily Beast, Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under) stated he is “excited to step back into [the role of Dexter Morgan]”. Original series showrunner Clyde Phillips (Nurse Jackie) is back with Dexter, Showtime limited series event to bring fans “closure” for the original eight series drama. According to a that same interview with Daily Beast, not only were fans of the show left dumbfounded but even Hall thought “What the hell happened to that guy?”

The original Showtime series, Dexter ended in 2013 with a finale that was lackluster to say the least. After adding his one and only sister Debra Morgan, portrayed by Jennifer Carpenter (Limitless) to his roster of victims, serial killer killer, Dexter Morgan flees from Miami. He ultimately ends up somewhere in Oregon assuming his new life of anonymity.

Reported by Deadline last year, Dexter, the Emmy award winning drama about America’s favorite serial killer was greenlit for a reboot. This time in a limited episode event. Reprising the titular role, Globen Globe winner Hall hopes to take the opportunity to end the series in a different way.

Daily Beast recently Zoomed Hall about his new band, Princess Goes To The Butterfly Museum. A Neo-synth/Electonic band he started with bandmates Peter Yanowitz (Morningwood drummer) and Matt Katz-Bohen (Blondie keyboardist). Daily Beast took the opportunity to inquire about the upcoming Dexter reboot. When asked about Dexter’s return and why it took seven years for him to come back, Hall had this to say:

“I think in this case, the story that’s being told is worth telling in way that other proposals didn’t, and I think enough time has passed where it’s become intriguing in a way that it wasn’t before. And let’s be real: people found the way that show left things pretty unsatisfying, and there’s always been a hope that a story would emerge that would be worth telling. I include myself in the group of people that wondered, “What the hell happened to that guy?” So I’m excited to step back into it. I’ve never had that experience of playing a character this many years on.” via Daily Beast

Clyde Phillips was the showrunner for the first four seasons. Phillips departed from the series in 2009. Although the series finale in 2013 wasn’t his vision, he vows that nothing will be undone. In a recent interview with US Weekly, Phillips stated: “We’re not undoing anything. We’re not doing movie magic. We’re not going to betray the audience and say, ‘Whoops, that was all a dream’ or whatever it is. What happened in the first eight years happened in the first eight years. This is now, however many years later. We’re not undoing anything.”

Set to pick up about 10 years after the events of the original series finale, according to Entertainment Weekly the revival of Dexter will begin production soon and the 10 episode series will be released in fall 2021. The reboot is sure to bring some new characters as well, so stay tuned for more of the latest updates.
