“All About That Bass” singer Meghan Trainor will star in a new sitcom for NBCUniversal, as part of their recent overall deal with the pop star, according to Variety. Trainor will help develop the, as of yet, unnamed show.
Trainor’s deal also includes any potential scripted or unscripted work for NBCUniversal’s various outlets, such as Bravo, E!, SYFY, USA and Peacock.
Susan Rovner, chairman of entertainment content for NBCUniversal Television & Streaming, said Trainor is an excellent person for comedy television.
“In addition to being a phenomenally talented performer, Meghan is a vibrant and hilarious ray of light who is the perfect fit for NBC’s brand,” Rovner said, according to Variety. “We love the idea of introducing Meghan into the world of scripted comedy as well working with her to find all the creative and crazy ways she can engage with fans across our brands.”
After initially hitting the mainstream with “All About That Bass” in 2014, Trainor has accrued a total of eight multi-platinum singers and even won a Grammy.
Trainor said she is excited to work with Rovner and the rest of NBCUniversal.
“This collaboration with NBCUniversal is so beyond a dream come true. I’m obsessed with and inspired by Susan and can’t wait to work with her and her incredibly talented team to bring our ideas to life,” Trainor said.
Trainor has previously served as a judge on both The Voice UK and Fox’s The Four: Battle for Stardom. She also voiced Smurfmelody in Smurfs: The Lost Village.
