‘Master of None’ Releases Season Three Trailer and Announces May 23 Premiere Date

The critically acclaimed Netflix original series Master of None will return to the streamer on May 23 with season three. It’s been four years since season two and, this time around, the third installment will star Lena Waithe (Them) with series creator and former leading man Aziz Ansari (Parks and Recreation) mainly working behind-the-camera, as reported by Indiewire

The trailer released for season three of Master of None Monday paints a portrait of Waithe’s Denise as she navigates a new relationship with Alicia, portrayed by Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker). The official synopsis released by Netflix was picked up by Indiewire: “(Season three) chronicles the relationship of Denise and her partner Alicia and is a modern love story that intimately illustrates the ups and downs of marriage, struggles with fertility, and personal growth both together and apart.” Following the romantic theme of the newest batch of episodes, season three has been subtitled as Master of None Presents: Moments in Love.

Waithe garnered critical acclaim when she co- wrote the episode “Thanksgiving” with Ansari in the second season, which detailed her character coming out to her family. Waithe and Ansari won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for the episode. Waithe has since gone on to be a trailblazer within the television industry, creating and writing the Showtime series The Chi, Amazon Prime’s Them, and writing the screenplay for the 2019 film Queen & Slim.

In previous seasons, the series focused on Ansari as Dev, an aspiring actor living in New York with Waithe playing the supporting role of his best friend Denise. Briefly appearing in the season three trailer, most of Ansari’s work will be behind-the-scenes. He directed the entirety of season three along with co-writing all five of the episodes with Waithe.
