Marvel’s New Series ‘Wonder-Man’ Reveals Co-Directors Stella Meghie & Daniel Destin Cretton

In a Deadline report, an upcoming superhero series from Marvel Studios trademarked ‘Wonder Man’ has hired talented director Stella Meghie (The Photograph, Everything Everything, The Weekend) to lead a designated amount of episodes in the series. The series will follow Simon Williams and showcase his origin story as well as his journey to become a hero, and one day be part of the worlds go-to superhero team commonly known as The Avengers.

Wonder Man is just one of many series planned for the current saga of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe themed around parallel universes dubbed the Multiverse Saga. Meghie will be directing alongside Daniel Destin Cretton (The Glass Castle, Shang-Chi and The Legend of Ten Rings, Just Mercy) for an allotted amount of episodes, with a guest writer Andrew Guest (30 Rock, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Marry Me) who will also get an executive producer credit with Marvel president Kevin Feige (Blade, Deadpool, The Avengers).

Wonder Man is set to star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman, Aquaman, The Matrix: Resurrections) given the lead role as the title character, the show doesn’t have a scheduled date but is planned to air sometime in between 2023 and 2024.

The character was created by Stan Lee (Spiderman, The Avengers, Big Hero 6) with well-known comic book artist Don Heck (The Tomb of Dracula, Wonder Woman, X-Men) and Jack Kirby (Kirby: Genesis, Fantastic Four, The Hunter Dogs). Wonder Man made his initial debut in 1964 in the Avengers #9 comics. Wonder Man and his civilian alter ego Simon Willians, seize control of his fathers industrial arms and ammunition production/distribution company. His outfit eventually hits a wall of mediocrity once in competition with the illustrious Stark Industries run by billionaire playboy ‘Tony Stark’ publicly known as Iron Man. When Williams obtains his ion-based powers of flight, agility, and super strength, he is hired by the Baron Zemo a long time rival of Captain America and The Avengers thus establishing himself as a villain instead of a hero. After his inevitable defeat by the superhero team he decides to abandon the evil life and join the Avengers.

Director Meghie has created strong ties with Disney taking an executive producer role in another upcoming series at Disney+. This series follows the continued animated stories of The Princess and the Frog and will be called Tiana. Needless to say, Meghie will continue her work at Disney and hopefully fans will see more of her directing skills.
