Marvel’s ‘Luke Cage’ Unveils New Teaser Trailer

September 30 can’t get here soon enough.

At its panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel’s Luke Cage debuted a new teaser trailer which, I think we can all agree, speaks for itself. For those of us not lucky enough to be present at Comic-Con, Netflix added the teaser to YouTube so we can all enjoy it. Check it out below.

And now we all wish that time travel were possible so we wouldn’t have to wait until this fall to catch the first season of Luke Cage on Netflix.

Luke Cage is the third installment on Netflix leading up to Marvel’s Defenders series. Defenders will feature Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist (whose individual series is still in the works), and will be sort of a grittier underground version of the Avengers.

Mike Coulter will star as Luke Cage who, like Jessica Jones, also has superhuman abilities. After an experiment goes wrong, he gains the abilities of super strength and unbreakable skin. The series will follow Cage as he hides out in Harlem, trying to rebuild his life despite being a fugitive. But as the trailer shows, Luke Cage will have to step out of the shadows and become a hero in order to defend his city.

Technically we have already seen Coulter play Luke Cage since the character was introduced in Jessica Jones as the title character’s love interest/boyfriend. In the comics, Cage and Jones are married, so obviously we are looking forward to more interaction between the two characters.

Mahershala Ali will play Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, one of Cage’s adversaries. Alfre Woodard has been cast as Stokes’ cousin and local politician, Mariah Dillard, who is on a mission to clean up her hometown. Cage’s nemesis, Shades/Alvarez, will be played by Theo Rossi, and Simone Missick has been cast as Misty Knight. We will also see Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, the same role she played in Daredevil, in Luke Cage.

During Luke Cage‘s Comic-Con appearance, it was also announced that Netflix had officially renewed Daredevil for third season.

Luke Cage premieres September 30 on Netflix worldwide.
