Marvel Studios Developing Halloween Special Starring Latino Actor For Disney+

Marvel Studios is currently developing an untitled Halloween special for Disney+, which will feature a Latino lead, according to VarietyIt is currently unclear which plot from the Marvel comics the special will be based on.

It is possible that the Halloween Special could follow the storyline of “Werewolf by Night,” which follows the character Jack Russell, who debuted in February 1972, who has a family history of transforming from human form into a werewolf and uses his power for good instead of evil. However, nothing concrete has been confirmed.

Marvel’s search for a Latino lead adds to its efforts to expand on representation within the universe. Marvel’s long-awaited film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which premieres in theaters on September 3, features the studio’s first Asian-led cast, while November’s Eternals maintains a similarly diverse cast, featuring Salma Hayek (Frida), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) and Haaz Sleiman (The Visitor) as the first same-sex couple in the MCU, and Lauren Ridloff (Sound of Metal) as the studio’s first deaf character. Meanwhile, Anthony Mackie’s (Captain America and the Winter Soldier) portrayal of Captain America in Falcon and the Winter Soldier following Steve Rogers’ departure redefined what it meant to hold the shield.

Disney+ and Marvel Studios also have a Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special in development, following Marvel’s transition into television with the debut of WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and What If…?. The series still has much more content to come, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessShe-HulkHawkeye, and Spider-ManNo Way Home, with its trailer having just been released last week.
