The second season will introduce new and known Marvel characters, as well as continue to revisit the possible variations of iconic MCU moments. Many stars will be returning for season two, including Jon Favreau (The Book of Boba Fett, Avengers: Infinity War) as Happy Hogan, Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) as Nebula, and Vanessa Marshall (Star Trek Lower Decks, Harley Quinn) as Hera.

AC Bradley (3Below: Tales of Arcadia, Ms. Marvel) is the head writer of the series and Bryan Andrews (Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel) joins Bradley as a writer and executive producer.

Comicbook has also reported that Bradley has confirmed that season two of What If…? will feature Gamora.

“What happened with the Gamora episode, there was originally supposed to be — early on in the season — a Tony and Gamora-centric episode,” Bradley said, according to Comicbook. “However, due to COVID and production delays, one of our amazing, amazing animation houses around the globe got hit pretty hard by the pandemic. And we were left with two choices: push the entire season to later this year, or push this one episode to Season 2.”

“We made the choice to push that episode to Season 2, and hoped that seeing Gamora in the finale serves as a teaser for what is to come,” she continued, reported Comicbook. “In Season 2, it’ll almost be like a little bit of a prequel, we’ll see how Tony and Gamora became friends, because those two don’t even interact in the main MCU universe.”

What If…? premiered on Disney+ on August 11, 2021. Along with Favreau, Gillan, and Marshall, the voice cast includes Hayley Atwell (Agente Carter, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One), Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Extraction), Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Doctor Strange), and Michael B. Jordan (Creed, Black Panther).
