Marvel and Disney+’s ‘WandaVision’ Adds Evan Peters to its Cast

The impending Marvel television series WandaVision has announced the newest addition to its cast in the American Horror Story regular Evan Peters, according to ComicBook. Peters, known for his main roles in the FX anthology series and as Quicksilver in the recent X-Men franchise, will be making his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through this television program which will air on Disney+. This new series will be overseen by Jac Schaeffer (Black Widow) and directed by Matt Shakman (Game of Thrones, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as the narrative picks up after the final events that occurred in Avengers: Endgame, one of the final films that closed out the first three phases of the MCU.

The upcoming superhero drama will center on Scarlet Witch, or real name Wanda Maximoff, and Vision with Elizabeth Olsen (Wind River) and Paul Bettany (The Da Vinci Code) returning to portray their original roles, respectively. In addition to these mainstays in the MCU, WandaVision has announced the return of some minor Marvel characters such as Captain Marvel’s Monica Rambeau portrayed by Teyonah Parris (Mad Men, Chi-Raq), Thor’s Darcy Lewis portrayed by Kat Dennings (2 Broke Girls), and Ant-Man and the Wasp’s FBI Agent Jimmy Woo portrayed by Randall Park (The Interview, Fresh Off the Boat).

According to ComicBook, the addition of Peters to the cast is for an undisclosed role. Despite this announcement, comic book and Marvel fans alike are wondering whether Peters’ involvement with the two Marvel franchises in X-Men and the MCU could lead to the first instance of the X-Men characters joining the MCU. Additionally, his previous role, Quicksilver in the X-Men movies, carries the real name of Pietro Maximoff which shares the last name of the Scarlet Witch’s real identity of Wanda Maximoff due to their paternal relation via Magneto in the comics. However, currently in the MCU, this relationship has not been brought up with the ultimate demise of Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s (Kick-Ass) depiction of Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron

Regardless, WandaVision was intended for a December 2020 release on the Disney streaming platform but has witnessed production delays in addition to undetermined consequences from the on-going COVID-19 pandemic that has disrupted film and TV production across the globe. Currently, there is no exact release date attached to the project in addition to the no trailer for the series besides the series’ poster and a Marvel Super Bowl commercial for its Disney+ series which can be seen below:
