Mark Ruffalo Currently in Talks for ‘She-Hulk’

Mark Ruffalo is currently in preliminary talks to make an appearance in Disney+’s new She-Hulk original series. The Golden Globe Nominee is most well-known for his starring role in the the films of  the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Hulk (and as Bruce Banner, his human counterpart) and is likely to reprise the role in the upcoming show.

She-Hulk, announced at Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, will begin filming in Atlanta in August. It will join a slate of other MCU properties, including Loki, The Falcon and Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel, that Disney is currently developing for its Disney+ platform.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series is in development for a 2022 premiere, but this remains unconfirmed by Disney. The series’ writing team is currently being led by Jessica Gao, most well-known for her roles in the production of Robot Chicken, Silicon Valley, and Rick and Morty.

Ruffalo made the announcement during an appearance at his panel during the 2020 Chicago and Entertainment Expo on March 1. Ruffalo’s appearance in the show is likely due to his role as the Hulk and Bruce Banner’s role in the original She-Hulk comics.

In The Savage She Hulk No. 1, Jennifer Walters (the soon-to-be She-Hulk) is shot during a visit from her cousin Bruce Banner (otherwise known as the Hulk). In a last-ditch attempt to save her, Banner is forced to give Walters an impromptu blood transfusion, which results into her transformation into She-Hulk.

It’s currently unclear how large of a role Ruffalo will be playing in She-Hulk’s production. If the comics are any indication, however, Banner will disappear from the series after Walters’ transformation into She-Hulk. There may be an opportunity for Ruffalo to take a key recurring role if the decision is made to make Banner a mentor-like character to Walters.

Currently, no information has been released regarding any major plot points, nor has there been any release date confirmed. Even the role of She-Hulk herself has not yet been casted. However, last week rumors circulated online that Disney was currently looking for “An Alison Brie-type actress” to play the role of Jennifer Walters.
