Mark Hamil Gearing Up To Join Cast Of ‘Twisted Metal’ Season Three

Deadline has reported that Mark Hamill (Invincible, Big City Greens) is gearing up to join the third season of Twisted Metal. The former Star Wars actor will recur as Pope Charlie Kane, leader of the Eastern Sovereignty. Additionally, he is also the father of Sweet Tooth, played by Joe Senoa (AEW Collision, AEW Dynamite) and voiced by Will Arnett (Bojack Horseman, Arrested Development).

Anthony Mackie (The Falcon And The Winter Solider, Avengers: Endgame), star and executive producer, shares his thoughts on Hamil’s casting: “For Mark Hamill to come into this world with us is amazing. He’s someone I’ve admired for a long time — a true legend who’s influenced generations of actors. Being able to now call him a castmate is an incredible honor, and we’re excited to see what he brings to the world of Twisted Metal,” Mackie said via Deadline.

Twisted Metal is based on the PlayStation video game of the same name. The series follows Mackie’s John Doe as he attempts to make a better life for himself by delivering a package across a post-apocalyptic hellscape. During his quest, he will meet the likes of Quiet, played by Stephanie Beatriz (Encanto, In The Heights), a carjacker who helps battle other survivors and hidden threats along the open road.

Spoilers for the following information. In season two, John and Quiet enter the bracket of a demolition derby tournament. Calypso, played by Anthony Carrigan (Barry, Superman), is the mysterious host of the deadly event. During this time, they will encounter both foe in Sweet Tooth and family in John’s long-lost sister.

The series was renewed for a new season in October. It is produced by Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Universal Television. Season two reached astounding heights with 993 million minutes watched, the second-most for a scripted original returning series on Peacock. At the same juncture, it was announced David Reed (The Boys, The Magicians) would be taking over as showrunner and executive producer.

Additional executive producers include Arnett, Marc Forman (Super Team Canda, Snake Oil), Rhett Reese (Deadpool, Zombieland), Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland), and Asad Qizilbash (Uncharted, The Last Of Us). Hammil has recently starred in Stephen King adaptations The Life of Chuck and The Long Walk. The Long Walk was awarded the ensemble award at the Independent Spirit Awards. He has also taken on voice acting roles in the Oscar-nominated The Lost Robot and  SpongeBob: Search for SquarePants.
