Mad Men will be following down a similar path Breaking Bad is currently strolling right now by splitting its final season into two parts that will expand over two years, according to Indiewire. The last season comprises of 14 episodes as opposed to the standard 13, airing seven in the spring of 2014 and the rest in spring 2015.
“We plan to take advantage of this chance to have a more elaborate story told in two parts, which can resonate a little bit longer in the minds of our audience,” series creator and showrunner Matthew Weiner said. “The writers, cast and other artists welcome this unique manner of ending this unique experience.”
This extension gives the series a little more time to remain in the spotlight and lends itself a similar opportunity to double their ratings on the premiere of the second half of its final season.
