‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Midseason Premiere to Feature Young George Lucas

The heroes of CW’s Legends of Tomorrow may have their most important mission yet.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the upcoming midseason premiere of the DC-based series, titled “Raiders of the Lost Art”, will revolve around a young George Lucas. After the discovery that Arthur Darvill’s Rip Hunter is working as a sci-fi director in 1967 Los Angeles an alternate timeline is created where Lucas (played by Grimm‘s Matt Angel) decides to drop out of film school. According to Legends of Tomorrow EP Marc Guggenheim, this will have quite a negative effect on Ray (Brandon Routh) and Nate (Nick Zano).

“Because of the circumstances, the time aberration in episode 209 is George Lucas quits film school,” said Guggenheim. “As a result, he never makes Star Wars or Raiders of the Lost Ark. As a result, Ray, who became an engineer because of Star Wars, and Nate, who became a historian because of Raiders, slowly start to lose their brilliance, because those things that inspired them to become who they are didn’t exist.”

This episode of Legends of Tomorrow sounds like it is aiming to fully embrace the show’s wackier tone compared to other DC/CW shows like Arrow or The Flash.

“We were watching a cut of it, and I said to Greg [Berlanti] that 209 is either going to be the episode where we’ll say that the show found a new gear in terms of how zany it can be, or it’s the episode that’s going to get us all fired,” Guggenheim said. “It really is. You’re laughing out loud, I think with it, but it’s like, ‘Are we really doing this?’ It’s the ’70s bar fight on steroids. The whole episode is that level of crazy.”

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow returns for its midseason premiere on The CW on January 24th at 9 pm.
