mxdwn has been following the yes she will or no she won’t trials of Lauren Cohan’s up in the air contract and subsequent return to season nine of The Walking Dead. Now, according to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, current show-runner Scott M. Gimple feels pretty strongly about her return.
“These things do happen,” Gimple said of the negotiations, “We’ve had people do other shows and other gigantic movies that take America by storm. We’re figuring it out with each other and trying to let people be able to do other things and stick around. I shan’t even entertain the thought.”
Cohan recently signed on to co-star in an ABC drama, Whiskey Cavalier, alongside Scott Foley. Cohan will portray the hard-ass CIA agent Frankie Trowbridge. Her situation could work out in several scenarios including a full-time return to TWD or recurring role; no return to TWD with a possibly picked up series on ABC; or she could just leave well enough alone and stay where she is.
While Cohan was not looking to pull down salary of Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) or Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon), she was in negotiations for a fair bump. Sources report her people are unhappy with offers on the table which was why they advised her to entertain other prospective roles. Due to off-season shooting for TWD, Cohan might actually be able to have the best of both worlds.
The character of Maggie still plays an integral role in the comic series; however, given the recent demise of Carl, no one is really ever safe in Zombieland.
