Kumail Nanjiani Kills For The American Dream In Hulu’s ‘Welcome To Chippendales’ Trailer

Hulu released the first full trailer for its upcoming limited series, Welcome to Chippendales, via Deadline. The limited series from Pam & Tommy creator, Robert Siegel, will dive deeply into the relatively unknown origins of the world’s most famous male-stripper franchise, and its tragic true-crime ending. The series stars onscreen funny man, Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals, Obi-Wan Kenobi) in the lead role. View the trailer below.

Inpsired by the true story, Welcome to Chippendales follows Nanjiani as Somen “Steve” Banergee, an Indian immigrant whose pursuit of the American dream catapults him to infamy. The meanial convenience store clerk trades his blue uniform for a business suit as the founder of the world-renown male revue empire, Chippendales. The series chronicles his rise in the unsaturated market of men for the female gaze, and what fatal lengths he goes to protect his creation.

According to Deadline, Nanjiani will share the screen with Annaleigh Ashford (Masters of Sex, B Positive), Murray Bartlett (Looking, The White Lotus), Juliette Lewis (Ma, Yellowjackets), Robin de Jesús (Camp, tick, tick…BOOM!), Quentin Plair (The Good Lord Bird, The Quad), and Andrew Rannells (The Boys in the Band, Black Monday). The series will also costar Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender, Bates Motel) and Philip Shabaz (Bosch: Legacy, DNA) as Playboy Playmate Dorothy Stratten and film director Peter Bogdanovich, respectively.

Deadline reports Siegel and Nanjiani will serve as executive producers along with series writer Rajiv Jospeh (Animals Out of Paper, All This Intimacy), Nora Silver (Sinlge Drunk Female, Power), director Matt Shakman (WandaVision, Fargo), co-showrunner Jenni Konner (Camping, Girls), Emily V. Gordon (The Big Sick, Little America), and Dylan Sellars (The Giver, St. Vincent). Mehar Sethi (Undone, The Harper House) will co-write along with Jospeh as Jacqui Rivera (The Other Guys, The Get Down) and Annie Wyman (The Chair) are attached as co-executive producer and co-producer, respectively.
