Krishnendu Majumdar Appointed BAFTA Chair

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced their new chair, award-winning TV producer Krishnendu Majumdar (Hoff the Record, Sick of it). He will succeed Pippa Harris (Away We Go, 1917) as BAFTA chair. Majumdar is the first person of color to chair the organization in the Academy’s 73 year history as well as its youngest chair in 35 years, via Hollywood Reporter.

Majumdar founded the production company Me + You Productions in 2012 alongside Richard Yee (Hoff the Record). Soon after, Majumdar began his work in the International Emmy-winning series Hoff the Record and later executive produced the comedy series Sick of It.

The Emmy award winning TV producer has worked with BAFTA for over 14 years, being chair of the Learning and New Talent Committee from 2006-2010, the chair of the Television Committee from 2015-2010, and key member of the board of trustees. As a long standing advocate of diversity and representation throughout the media and his career, he is also chair of BAFTA’s Awards Review, which discuss and respond to the lack of diversity in Film Awards nominations, via Hollywood Reporter

In response to finally being appointed chair of BAFTA, Majumdar states, “It is a tremendous honor to be elected chair of BAFTA and I’m lucky to be following Pippa Harris’ outstanding Tenure and I want to pay tribute to the resilient and dynamic leadership that Pippa has shown. This year has been a difficult and turbulent time for many in our industry, working with Pippa, BAFTA’s talented and committed staff and membership, I want BAFTA to be at the heart of rebuilding the industry post-COVID,” via Hollywood Reporter
