Dick Wolf imposed some of his own law & order earlier today by firing writer, Craig Gore (S.W.A.T, Chicago P.D.) from an up-coming Law & Order spinoff series, after Gore posted concerning Facebook status that threatened violence against ‘looters,’ according to Variety. The news comes during a dark time in our nation’s history, where protesters have taken to the street in solidarity against the brutal police killing of George Floyd.
In some parts of the county, the protests have taken a turn towards violence, resulting in the destruction of property. Los Angeles county has been one of the epicenters of the violence with protesters targeting wealthier West-side neighborhoods and the Downtown area.
The posts came to people’s attention after Drew Janda (Barry, Big Little Lies) posted screenshots from Gore’s Facebook on twitter.
The pictures show Gore, who lives in West Los Angeles, dressed in black with a bandana covering his face, armed with a large firearm. The caption simply read, ‘…curfew.’ Within the post’s comment thread, he then elaborated: “Sunset is being looted two blocks from me. You think I won’t light motherf—kers up who are trying to f— w/ my property I worked all my life for? Think again…”
Gore was set to work on Christopher Meloni’s new Law & Order spin-off show, in which Meloni reprises his character Elliot Stabler. In a May 6th Facebook post shared by Janda, Gore wrote, “Took another gig back in the Wolf camp… can’t wait to get rolling w/ Meloni leading a bad-ass Organized Crime team as they take down NYC’s most notorious.” The former-writer even went as for as to list himself as a “co-executive producer on ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime.”
Responding to the controversy, Meloni wrote his own tweet:
The S.W.A.T writers room also posted their own response to the George Floyd protests on the same day Gore posted his tirade. Taking a more diplomatic approach, the writers vowed to “mine the truth about these issues” in the writing of their upcoming season.
