ABC Produces News Special ‘America in Pain’ Covering Nationwide Protests

ABC News will air special report covering the protests that have occurred across the country in the wake of the death of George Floyd, Variety reports. The special, entitled America in Pain: What Comes Next?, will cover the protests, the reactions to them, and the reasons behind them, particularly Floyd’s death and similar wrongful death cases.

This special is the latest in a set of programs created by an array of networks dedicated to reporting on the multitude of demonstrations that have occurred over the last week. Since the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody, people have engaged in protests all over the country to speak out about these events. Alongside broadcast news covering the demonstrations in real time, pre-recorded programs have also been made by networks such as CNN (entitled I Can’t Breathe), Fox News (as part of an episode of Special Report with Bret Baier), and MSNBC (entitled Nationwide Protests Over Death Of George Floyd).

Previously, ABC News aired a special covering this topic on Saturday night alongside several reports on its live streaming service ABC News Live.

This special aims to encompass a variety of topics related to the protests, such as individual reactions from those protesting and the officials from cities where these demonstrations have taken place. In addition, the program will cover the latest news surrounding the investigation into Floyd’s death.

America in Pain: What Comes Next? will be produced by John Green (20/20) and Catherine McKenzie (Good Morning America). Robin Roberts (Good Morning America), David Muir (World News Tonight), and Bryon Pitts (Nightline) will host the special. ABC will air America in Pain tonight at 9 PM Eastern.

Stuart Wilson: Film and television follower. Russian Culture and Comparative Literature double major at UNC Chapel Hill.
