Get ready Sex and the City fans for the return of Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones (Mannequin) in the continuation series And Just Like That… . According to CNN, the actress has been on set to film scenes as recent as March of this year. Fans were surprised to see Cattrall’s absence in the spinoff series, considering she was a present character for two movies and six seasons of the Sex and the City universe. The actress addressed her character’s missing presence in the new series saying, “It’s odd, isn’t it? I don’t know how to feel about it,” the actress said regarding the reason her character wasn’t in the show sooner, “It’s so finite for me, so it doesn’t continue. This feels like an echo of the past.”
Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones in Sex and the City was noted for having a “sex-positive” attitude as a very bold publicist. Her return to the spinoff was announced by an official at HBO, confirming her presence in the upcoming second season’s story. During her time filming in March, her presence was kept in utmost secrecy. Her name was not put on the call sheet, as to reduce any exchange of information regarding her return. She filmed in a location in Queens taking place in a redesigned garage to properly fit the scene. Previously, last year in May, Cattrall was asked by Variety why she decided not to return to And Just Like That… to reprise her role as Samantha, to which she noted that what she had chosen was “a great wisdom to know when enough is enough,” and that “I also didn’t want to compromise what the show was to me. The way forward seemed clear, I played her, and I loved her. I felt ultimately protective of her.’
Though Kim Cattrall was not in the first season of And Just Like That…, fans can be excited to see the return of Samantha in the upcoming second season.
