Katherine McNamara Teases Blackstar’s Return on Tonight’s ‘Arrow’ Episode on The CW

Arrow fans are in for a treat for its 150th episode tonight. Katherine McNamara, who plays Maya/Blackstar on the show, teased her character’s return with a tweet yesterday.

The last time we saw Blackstar was earlier this season in an episode titled “Unmasked.” The general idea that fans got from Blackstar’s entrance into the Arrowverse was that she was going to be revealed as the new Green Arrow. However, the real Green Arrow turned out to be Emiko Queen (Sea Shimooka). How Blackstar plays a role in the Arrowverse is something fans are creating theories about.

McNamara previously worked on Shadowhunters which was canceled by Freeform. The second half of the show’s third season will be airing sometime this year in the spring. McNamara shared how different her two characters’ personalities from each show are.

“She’s a street fighter, so she’s a boxer in an underground fight club,” McNamara said. “She grew up in a very rough environment and is very much a product of that environment. So whereas Clary [her Shadowhunters character] was very much the hopeful optimist, Maya is very much the realist and one to punch first and ask questions later. She’s not one to be underestimated or messed with. Maya’s certainly kickass, I’ll tell you that much.”

Blackstar had revealed that her and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) used to work together. With all the mystery surrounding Blackstar, fans are anxious to get some answers really soon. Tonight’s episode could potentially be the one to do it.

“I do have a lot of secrets up my sleeve that have been so graciously shared with me by the showrunner [Beth Schwartz] and by everyone else on Team Arrow,” McNamara says. “The biggest thing I can say is there’s a lot to come from this character, and there’s so much as an actor for me to mine out of it. And just like everyone at Arrow’s been so welcoming, and it really has been a situation where I feel like I’m part of the family.”

Arrow airs on Mondays on The CW at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
