Jewel Kilcher, is a Grammy award-winning singer who grew up in Homer, Alaska. The Kilcher family has cultivated and lived in their Alaskan homestead for many generations. However, before Jewel arrives, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake strikes the area where the Kilcher family resides. After the natural disaster, the Kilchers struggle to recover as they are faced with extensive damage in the form of dangerous landslides, muddy road collapses, and the harsh winds. As a result, the Kilchers must learn to adapt to a new reality since their way of life is at risk.

In addition to the earthquake, Otto and Charlotte are confronted with another major concern as Otto prepares for a risky surgery to fix his life-threatening hernia and Charlotte says goodbye to her mother. Meanwhile, Eivin and Eve continue to focus on their own home but Eivin begins to feel the pressure of stepping up to the plate after he comes to the realization that his father is not getting any younger. Then there’s Atz Lee and Jane who are still not on the same page about his desire to move deeper into the Alaskan wild which causes a major strain in their relationship. Essentially, the entire family will be pushed to the limits by both nature and each other, so they must all unite as a family to sustain the free and simple life of homesteading they’ve all decided to proudly carry on.
