It’s about darn time.
While everyone is eagerly anticipating the primetime Emmy’s which will take place on September 18, the creative arts Emmy’s were awarded this past weekend. James Corden’s The Late Late Show, took home couple Emmy’s, beating out huge contenders such as Beyonce’s Lemonade. But perhaps the most significant win of the night was Marvel’s Jessica Jones which took home the award for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.
The award is significant because Marvel’s Jessica Jones‘s win is the first ever for a Marvel television series, despite the ever growing number of Marvel TV shows.
I think we can all agree that Jessica Jones deserved recognition for its fantastic first season and theme music, but the award the show got isn’t the one fans expected. When the Emmy nominations were first announced, fans were confused as to why certain performances from Jessica Jones were missing from the primetime Emmy roster. After her incredible portrayal of protagonist Jessica Jones, many thought Krysten Ritter was undeservingly snubbed for not receiving a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress. Or, you know, maybe the show should have been nominated for Outstanding Drama because it was that good.
Although Krysten Ritter should have been nominated for her lead role, it is nice to see the show, as well as the Marvel TV universe, is being recognized.
There are many promising shows still to come which are set in the Marvel TV universe. We are still waiting on Legion on FX and Defenders, Luke Cage and Iron Fist on Netflix, and each series promises more outstanding performances and storytelling.
Hopefully now that Jessica Jones has paved the way, there will be more Emmy’s in the future for Marvel TV.
