Janet Jackson Documentary Drops Full Trailer and Sets Release Date

The full story of Janet Jackson will be told in an upcoming autobiographical documentary this month. A&E and Lifetime released the full trailer of the two-part film on Saturday, simply titled Janet, which is due for January 28.

The documentary will dive into Jackson’s personal life and 40-year career. The film will show never-before-seen footage, home videos, and many celebrity interviews. Many guests will be apart of the film including Whoopi Goldberg, Mariah Carey, and Ciara among the celebrities seen in the trailer.

“It’s just needed to be done,” Jackson said in the opening of the sneak peek. The documentary will show Jackson reflecting on her childhood, her relationship with her late father, Joe Jackson, and her late brother and pop megastar, Michael Jackson, and some of the biggest moments — both good and bad — of her career.

Jackson will also finally tell her side of the controversial 2004 Super Bowl Halftime Show performance with Justin Timberlake. The New York Times Presents recently released an episode on the incident, titled “Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson,” which broke down the incident from its conception to Janet’s eventual blacklisting from the media.

Ben Hirsh (Bruno v. Tyson) directed the documentary with Janet and Randy Jackson serving as executive producers. Rick Murray (Bruno v. Tyson) will also executive produce alongside Brie Miranda Bryant from A&E Networks.
