Amazon Executive Speaks About Renewal Of ‘Wheel Of Time’ And ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Series

Tvline recently spoke with Vernon Sanders, Head of Global TV for Amazon Studios, about two of the biggest titles the streaming platform is peddling, season two of The Wheel of Time and the upcoming Lord of the Rings television series. The Wheel of Time’s first season is currently on Amazon Prime and, according to Nielson ratings, 1.16 billion minutes have been viewed of only its first three episodes.

With this success, Sanders was reportedly excited to talk about how the second season could possibly air in tandem with the upcoming Lord of the Rings series. That series has been in production since 2020 and Sanders says that it could premiere in September of this year.

“We are going to be really thoughtful about how we release these shows,” Sanders told TV Line. “In our minds, they are very different shows, but we are cognizant of our genre fans, and we are excited about the collection of content we have — those two, along with The Expanse and The BoysCarnival Row is coming back, we have a fantastic show with [Westworld creators] Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy called The Peripheral…. We are very excited about the future.”

When asked about what fans can expect from the second season of Wheel of Time, Sanders was careful not to reveal too much as the show has been carefully filming it since May.

“We absolutely went into Season 2 with a real conversation about, “What can we do even better now that we have introduced this giant world and established these characters? So I will absolutely predict that Season 2 will be bigger, bolder, and a more expansive Wheel of Time,” Sanders said.

All episodes of Wheel of Time are currently on Amazon Prime and further information on The Lord of the Rings has yet to be released, but it currently is one of the most anticipated shows of the new year.
