Jamie Lee Curtis Plans Campaign to Join Netflix’s ‘One Piece’

After winning her first Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at Once, could Jamie Lee Curtis’ next gig be an anime? According to Deadline, the Halloween actress announced on Instagram plans to campaign for coveted role on Netflix’s breakout hitOne Piece. The live-action series is an adaptation of the long-running animated series. View the post below.

“ONCE the STRIKE against the greed of the AMTPT is SETTLED with a FAIR CONTRACT, I will lobby along with the growing fan frenzy to become Doctor Kureha,” Curtis stated in the post via Deadline. For weeks, fans of the series have voiced their wanting Curtis to play Dr. Kureha, whom Curtis seems to resemble in the photos. Showrunner Matt Owens (Luke Cage, Agents of SHEILD) happened to support this decision stating in the comments, “Mommy dearest, that’s why we sent you that figure! No need to lobby. Once we get what we deserve and get back to work let’s talk!”

According to DeadlineOne Piece is based on the manga series created by Eiichiro Oda (One Piece Vol. 39, Wanted). Developed by Owens and Steven Maeda (The X-Files, Lost), the series follows unique crew of pirates, the Straw Hat Pirates, led by their fearless leader, Monkey D. Luffy. The crew is traveling across the Grand Line in search of the “One Piece,” a mythical piece of treasure that bestows the title King of the Pirates on whoever possesses it. The series premiered earlier this year and has already been renewed for a second season.

The series stars Iñaki Godoy (The Imperfects, Who Killed Sara?) as Luffy, Emily Rudd (Hunters, Fear Street Part One: 1994) as Nami, Mackenyu (Over Drive, Knights of the Zodiac) as Roronoa Zoro, Taz Skylar (Boiling Point, The Deal) as Sanji, Morgan Davies (The Hunter, Beautiful They) as Koby, and Jeff Ward (Agents of SHIELD, Brand New Cherry Flavor)

One Piece is available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
