Jake Paul (Airplane Mode, G.O.A.T.) responds to Olivia Rodrigo’s (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Grace: Stirs Up Success ) comments on SNL…with degree of humility? The brash and smart-mouthed YouTuber turned pro-ish boxer took a jibe from Rodrigo’s monologue with a surprising degree of grace. Rodrigo said, “When I was 13, I was on a Disney show called Bizaardvark. “We had an incredible cast, which included acting legend Jake Paul. We’d always talk about our futures, me and Jake. I’d say, ‘I really want to create music that explores the complexities of girls my age. ‘Well, one day I really want to beat up old guys on Netflix.’ And we both did it! Hurray!,” via Deadline.
According to Deadline, Paul tweeted, they both “had a vision” before singing Rodrigo’s praises, “I told you that you would sell stadiums out and then we both did.” He would then go on to state that he was “proud” of Rodrigo. The tweet was set to Rodrigo’s breakout song ‘Driver’s License’.
Fans were quick to attempt to paint Paul as thick, believing he did not understand it was a joke at his expense. Paul quickly retorted that he“got that she was making a joke at my expense. So what. She’s on SNL and that’s what they are supposed to do. Doesn’t change my admiration of her and her success, via Deadline.
Deadline has reported that Paul also would post a throwback picture of the cast of a Disney sitcom on Instagram with the caption “the good old days”. The show ran from 2016 to 2019. Rodrigo was 13, as previously stated, while Paul was 19 at the beginning of the show.
Paul’s career change from social media to competitive boxing has been controversial. Paul began fighting athletes such as Nate Robinson. He would then transition to facing retired MMA fighters such as Ben Askerin, who had never been known as a stand-up fighter, and Tyrone Woodley. These bouts drew comments that he needed to fight “a real boxer,” leading him to face the brother of heavyweight champion and reality television star Tommy Fury. Furry would hand Paul his first loss.
Rodrigo’s comments were likely referring to him fighting a 58-year-old Mike Tyson. Paul’s most recent bout was against former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Although Joshua is by all accounts a real boxer, the fight would go Paul’s way as he suffered a devastating knockout and broken jaw.
