It’s Not About the Money In First Trailer for ABC Comedy ‘Home Economics’ Starring Topher Grace

A new family comedy is coming to ABC Wednesday evenings. According to TVLineHome Economics is single-camera comedy starring Topher Grace (That 70s Show, BlackKKKlansman), Caitlin McGee (Bluff City Law, Modern Love), and Jimmy Tatro (Modern Family, American Vandal). Ordered for a series pickup last year, the first trailer was revealed during ABC’s presentation at the Television Critics Association’s winter press panel. Check out the trailer below:

According to TVLine, the series centers on a set of three adult siblings, all living at different socioeconomic levels in San Francisco. The trailer is narrated by the eldest sibling, Tom, played by Grace. He, his wife, played by Karla Souza (How to Get Away With Murder, We Are the Nobles) and their daughter dwell in the middle class. He’s an author with a few novels to his name, but he’s hit a slight snag while working on his latest book. Tom feels dejected when he’s forced to ask his younger, richer sibling, Tatro’s Connor, for a loan.

McGee’s Sarah is the middle child living more modestly than both her brothers. In the trailer, she and her wife, played by Sasheer Zamata (The Weekend, Saturday Night Live) live snuggly with their two children. But when Sarah finds herself fired from her therapist job, she too has to resort to asking Connor if her family can move into his new abode, which was famously formerly owned by Matt Damon.

The trailer shows Connor living a life etched by the wealth of the one-percent, with a little girl and wife of his own. But beneath the veneer of luxury living, Connor is experiencing his lowest point. Each sibling finds themselves needing the other more than ever, realizing their familial bonds are more valuable than what’s in their bank account. Yet, a secret Tom is withholding about his latest book may threaten his relationship with his family.

According to TVLine, the series is inspired by writer Micahel Colton’s (Best Week Ever, The Comebacks) life. He and his comedy partner, John Aboud (Penguins of Madagascar, The Fake News with Ted Nelms), will write the series. Grace is attached as the executive producer. Home Economics premieres on April 7 at 8:30 p.m. ET/7:30 C on ABC.
