In Celebration of Disney’s 100th Anniversary, Disney+ Set to Debut Restored Classic Walt Disney Animation Shorts

In an official Disney press release, beginning on July 7, 2023, Disney+ will be releasing 28 newly restored Walt Disney Animation classic shorts. Everyone on streaming will get a chance to experience classic shorts starring all the classic Disney characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Chip n’ Dale, Pluto, and Disney’s very first animated character ever, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

These shorts were created decades ago, the first shorts being created in 1927, which were All Wet and Trolley Troubles. The shorts that were restored end in 1956 with Chips Ahoy which features Donald Duck and his mini acorn-cheeked chipmunk rivals.

The restorations were completed by the Walt Disney Studios Restoration and Preservation team which is led by Kevin Schaeffer (Cinderella). Dorothy McKim (The Little Mermaid, Oliver & Company), who is a special projects and 2D animation producer, stated that “we are thrilled to be working with Kevin Schaeffer and the Studio’s restoration team in presenting these beautifully restored versions of classic Disney animated shorts. Two of our top artistic talents have lent their expertise and passion to the project to make sure that the films look their very best, and are authentic to the creative intentions of the original filmmakers. We’re very excited to be sharing these wonderful shorts with the Disney+ audience. They have never looked or sounded better.”

Along with Schaeffer and McKim, the restoration team consisted of Mike Giaimo (Frozen, Wish) completing color supervision and Eric Goldberg (Aladdin, Pocahontas). This same team of talented individuals recently restored Cinderella (1950) and are currently working on restoring Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937).
